ESPN is the worldwide leader in sports entertainment and they are not going anywhere, however, they will have to continue downsizing to afford the massive $7 subscriber rate they charge cable providers as household viewers have dropped in the digital age. This is all expected, but some bad investments (the NBA deal) and cord cutting is costing employees. ESPN can pivot to be more digital friendly, and given the over four billion minutes spent on the website, maybe they should.
