Today we make the kraken hatten, this is like a spiced rum Manhattan for your soul. The killer spirit in this recipe is the use of Kraken Black Spiced Rum.

We've found it very challenging to substitute Kraken Black Spiced Rum into many standard cocktails that call for spiced rum. The problem with many spiced rum recipes is that it expects a lightly spiced rum, not the bold flavor and punch of Kraken Black Spiced Rum, which can overpower a drink. However, the Kraken Hatten was designed to fully utilize Kraken Black Spiced rum without fear of causing a balance situation.
The Kraken Hatten is allowed to play itself out with strong forces of 2 ounces of Kraken Black Spiced Rum because of its balance against sour mix (fresh sour mix mind you!) to create the cocktail. The coconut rum is there to add secondary nuanced flavor to the Kraken Hatten without being the dominating force.
In the end, the Luxardo Maraschino Cherry and its juice really bring in a nice sweet component of cherry which almost gives the Kraken Hatten and aged rum appeal with soft cherry notes.
Kraken Hatten
- 2 oz. Kraken rum
- 1 oz. Cruzan Coconut rum
- 3 oz. fresh sour mix
- Dash of Luxardo Cherry Juice
- Garnish with Luxardo Maraschino Cherry
Overall, the Kraken Hatten is a great drink and I've added it to my little black book of memorable cocktails.
