To celebrate the June 8 arrival of NE-YO's 'Good Man' album, we connected him with Ty Dolla $ign for a Vevo 'Artist on Artist' session about the current state of R&B and the power of modern soul music. Great anecdotes pop up along the way, like NE-YO writing Mario's "Let Me Love You" and having to prove himself to Dr. Dre early on in his career. Ty Dolla talks about the experimentation part of the creative process while making his hit, "Paranoia," and how the music continues to change as various aspects of other styles are used to update R&B. They both agree that it all comes down to the song. "A good song cuts through all the red tape of who's hot and who's not," says NE-YO, and he has the final word on the frustrations of conforming to genre rules. "It ain't about fitting in. It's about blending OUT."
